Trivia
AC
- This is the first Pop'n Music game with Expert Mode and Battle Mode.
- This is the first Pop'n Music game with a playable Challenge Mode on 5-Line.
- HI-SPEED 3 and 4 are now available for the first time.
- This is the first non-spinoff game to have anime/TV licenses.
- Likely the first game with every song to have a NORMAL and HYPER notechart.
- First Pop'n Music game with banners. They were noticeably taller than later games in the series. Come the following installment, the banners were shrunken in size to look similar in shape and size to those of fellow BEMANI series DanceDanceRevolution.
- First game in the series to include the singing of ALPHA, who would sing many, many songs with Des-ROW over the years.
- First appearance of beatmania sound director Takehiko Fujii, as well GUITARFREAKS/drummania mainstays Hideyuki Ono and Jimmy Weckl in the series.
- Long-time pop'n music staff member Mr.T writes music for the series for the first time.
- This is the first arcade Pop'n Music title since his debut in which Hiroshi Takeyasu didn't compose a song for the series.
- Challenge Mode is more streamlined, allowing you to use two different challenges per song. This set-up is still used to this day.
- Pop'n Music 6 is the first pop'n game to not include Mimi and Nyami's animations on its title screen.
CS
- Pop'n Music 6 is the final Pop'n title to be released in the PlayStation. PlayStation 2 had been out for 2 years by this time, and though pop'n music kept its popularity, consumers disliked the short songlist of the PlayStation's limited capacity CDs. Konami responded with the longest songlist of any PlayStstion pop'n title, at the expense of graphics.
- It's the final BEMANI game released on the PlayStation in Japan.
- GUNDAM and TAIYOU do not appear, as they were preview songs in pop'n music 5 CS. Several other licensed songs don't appear but later made it in pop'n music 7 CS and pop'n music Best Hits!.
- Battle Mode and RGB Mode are not present, unlike in the AC version.
